Meanings

   An expression used to indicate that a certain act mentioned in the preceding statement is completed and its result remains.

   앞말이 나타내는 행동을 끝내고 그 결과를 유지함을 나타내는 표현.

   ※ 끝음절의 모음이 ‘ㅏ, ㅗ’가 아닌 동사 뒤에 붙여 쓴다.

2. 2

   An expression used to stress that the state mentioned in the preceding statement is continued.

   앞말이 나타내는 상태의 지속을 강조할 때 쓰는 표현.

   ※ 주로 뒤에 오는 말에 대한 이유나 원인을 나타낼 때 끝음절의 모음이 ‘ㅏ, ㅗ’가 아닌 형용사 뒤에 붙여 쓴다.

• 나는 손님이 오기 전에 집 안을 정리해 놓았다.

  I tidied up the house before the guests arrived.

• 생각해 놓은 것이 없었던 나는 선생님의 갑작스러운 질문에 당황했다.

  I hadn't thought anything through beforehand, so I was flustered by the teacher's sudden question.

• 요리가 취미이신 어머니는 냉장고에 신선한 채소와 과일을 항상 준비해 놓으신다.

  My mother, who enjoys cooking as a hobby, always keeps fresh vegetables and fruit ready in the fridge.

• 아침에 시간이 없어서 설거지도 못하고 나왔어. 걱정하지 마. 내가 벌써 다 해 놓았어.

  I didn't have time this morning, so I left without washing the dishes. Don't worry, I already took care of it all.

• 올해는 날씨가 이상해 놔서 10월이 되도록 단풍이 들지 않는다.

  The weather has been so strange this year that the leaves still haven't changed color even in October.

• 승규는 성격이 급해 놓아서 실수를 자주 했다.

  Seunggyu is so impatient by nature that he often makes mistakes.
