-냐고 하다

say/ask whether ~

Attaches to a verb or adjective stem to report a question more generally than -냐고 묻다, since 하다 can stand for asking, saying, or even reproaching; often contracted to -냬 in casual speech.

Examples

  • 룸메이트가 창문을 열어도 되냐고 했어요.

    My roommate asked if it was okay to open the window.

  • 사람들이 왜 그렇게 화를 내냐고 해서 당황했다.

    People asked why I was getting so angry, and I was embarrassed.

  • 동료가 오늘 회의가 몇 시냐고 했다.

    A coworker asked what time today's meeting was.
