   An expression used to indicate that something the speaker heard is the reason or basis for the following statement.

   들은 사실이 뒤에 오는 말의 이유나 근거임을 나타내는 표현.

   ※ ‘-는다고 하기에’가 줄어든 말이다.

• 친구가 요리를 배운다기에 저도 같이 하겠다고 했어요.

  My friend said she was learning to cook, so I said I'd join her too.

• 백화점에서 세일을 한다기에 가서 옷 한 벌 사려고 해요.

  I heard the department store is having a sale, so I'm going to go buy an outfit.

• 딸아이가 내일 소풍을 간다기에 김밥 재료를 샀어요.

  My daughter said she's going on a picnic tomorrow, so I bought gimbap ingredients.

• 문구점에서 뭘 샀어요? 지수가 카드를 만든다기에 종이와 색연필을 샀어요.

  What did you buy at the stationery store? Jisu said she was making a card, so I bought paper and colored pencils.

• 승규가 요즘 스트레스를 많이 받는다기에 같이 노래방에 갔다.

  I heard Seunggyu has been really stressed lately, so we went to a noraebang together.

• 조카가 고기를 잘 먹는다기에 불고기를 구워 줬다.
