   An expression used to quote someone while modifying the following noun.

   들은 사실을 인용하여 전달하면서 그 뒤에 오는 명사를 꾸며 줄 때 쓰는 표현.

   ※ ‘ㄹ’을 제외한 받침 있는 동사 뒤에 붙여 쓰고, 주로 ‘생각’, ‘말’, ‘사람’ 등의 명사와 함께 쓴다. ‘-는다고 하는’이 줄어든 말이다.

• 가진 것이 많을수록 베풀어야 한다는 말이 있다.

  There's a saying that the more you have, the more you should give.

• 지수 혼자 먼저 간다는 걸 어떻게 말리겠어요?

  How could I stop Jisu from going ahead on her own?

• 우리는 남북한이 통일되어야 한다는 생각을 가지고 있다.

  Did you hear the news that tuition is going up again? Yeah, I heard. I'll have to get a part-time job to cover tuition.

• 그 사람은 걸핏하면 죽는다는 말을 하니 믿지 마세요.

  That person says he's going to die at the drop of a hat, so don't believe him.

• 밥을 먹는다는 사람이 지금 라면을 먹고 있으면 어떡해요?

  What do you mean, eating instant noodles right now, when you said you were going to eat a proper meal?
