say that ~ / is called ~

Attaches after a noun (이라고/라고) or a direct quotation to report what someone said, or to state what something is called; one of the core quotative forms used in reported speech.

Examples

  • 사람들은 그 산을 '작은 백두산'이라고 부른다.

    People call that mountain 'Little Baekdu Mountain.'

  • 친구가 저에게 "내일 다시 올게"라고 말했어요.

    My friend said to me, "I'll come again tomorrow."

  • 선생님은 이 단어가 옛날 표현이라고 하셨다.

    The teacher said this word is an old expression.
