-어 달라다

ask (someone) to do (for me/us)

The contracted quotative form of -어 달라고 하다; attaches to a verb stem to report that someone asked for an action to be done for the speaker's or subject's own benefit, unlike -어 주라고 하다 for others.

Examples

  • 동생이 숙제를 도와 달랬어요.

    My younger sibling asked me to help with their homework.

  • 손님이 창문을 좀 열어 달라고 했다.

    The guest asked us to open the window.

  • 아이가 이야기를 하나 더 읽어 달라며 졸랐다.

    The child begged us to read one more story.
